Plan your French Alps Cycling Adventure with Expert Local Advice

Cycling in the French Alps is a bucket-list experience — but creating the perfect trip takes more than simply downloading a GPX file. From selecting the right climbs and distances, to arranging airport and bag transfers, 'SAG' road support vehicle, and accommodation, there’s a lot to consider.

I live in the heart of the Haute-Savoie - home of the UCI Worlds 2027 - and spend hundreds of hours each year riding the roads made famous by the Tour de France.

From the legendary climbs of the Joux Plane, Col de la Ramaz, Col de la Colombière and Plateau de Solaison, to Swiss adventures such as Emosson Dam and Italian routes accessed through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, I know the roads, the climbs and the practical realities of riding in the Alps.

I’ll help you build a trip that matches you or your group,  including fitness levels, your available time and the type of Alpine cycling experience you want to create.

🇲🇽 International Group Cycling Adventure — Alpine Riding & Tour de France Experience

A group of experienced riders travelling from Mexico wanted to ride the legendary roads of the French Alps (including Galibier and Alpe D'Huez) combining challenging rides with the atmosphere of watching the Tour de France.

Working with the group, I helped design the riding itinerary, provide local route knowledge and deliver professional SAG road support throughout their Alpine adventure.

Key considerations included:

  • selecting iconic Alpine climbs that matched the group's goals and abilities

  • planning routes around Tour de France viewing opportunities

  • balancing challenging cols with enjoyable riding days

  • managing logistics, equipment and support requirements

  • allowing the riders to focus on the experience rather than the practical details

The group commented that they felt they were "in good hands" — exactly the reassurance that comes from having local knowledge and dedicated support when riding in the Alps.

🇺🇸 Personal Alpine Cycling Adventure — Custom Route Planning

A US-based cyclist planning an Alpine trip needed help choosing the best routes from the many possibilities available whilst based in Chamonix Mont-Blanc.

I reviewed his plans, created tailored GPX routes and provided local advice on:

  • which climbs offered the best experience

  • avoiding busy roads at the wrong times

  • realistic distances and elevation

  • making the most of limited riding days

The result was a personalised Alpine itinerary built around his goals rather than a generic route downloaded from an app.
